If you're reading this, I'm sure you already know Todd Windisch, and you know he was in a serious motorcycle accident. Todd has had a lot of surgery already and he's definitely going to be out of commission for a while.
I know Todd and Erin are more than self-sufficient, but I wanted to do something to help them. Todd has helped me in many ways, not least by employing me on his work crews, even though he knows I hate ladders. (I also don't really love crawling under houses, another trademark of working for Todd.) But in the lean years in New Orleans, I always knew I would never be without a job, because Todd was there. He's just been an amazing friend: loyal, honest, a fearless leader, and a great teacher. He literally gave me the tools I use to make my art, and his encouragement--basically saying "yes, people will want paintings of enormous grotesque creatures, and I will help you make them"--means everything to me.
I know there are other people in the same situation, people who Todd has befriended and helped, who would like to do something for Todd right now. I also know it's hard to give money when you don't have much, that it can seem like a drop in the bucket when their expenses are so big. So what I'm hoping is that we can get together and each give a little bit. It doesn't have to be a lot--we're not trying to cover every expense. But it would be great to raise enough to pay a month's rent and a car payment or two, just something to let them know they're not going through this alone.
So with that in mind I've set up a Paypal account--yes, it's my account, but all payments to it from this site are tagged "Todd Windisch Fund"--and if you like you can contribute any amount to it. If a good number of us who know Todd each put in a little bit we can do something nice for Todd and Erin and maybe help them by taking some small worries off their plate.
Contribution amounts will remain confidential. You can leave a personal note for Todd and Erin with your contribution, or just your name, or you can contribute anonymously if you like.
Also, if somebody's already raising money for Todd in New Orleans and I'm just stepping on their toes, please let me know! I'm not there, but I wish I could be, and if another account has already been set up, just send me an e-mail or phone number and I'll do what I can to help.
