Last Chance for Mister Slade.
You get two big chances to see the All-Night Movers this weekend, but you better take advantage of them, because these are the last shows for Slade Nash, Drummer From Another Planet.

Yes, after one year (and almost fifty shows), Slade has got all the drum parts down, so he's moving to Florida, to smoke pot or throw pots; I wasn't really listening. No, actually I was. I couldn't believe it. Slade moving??!?

The All-Night Movers will go on, but it's gonna be something totally different without the Machine.
Who will mix those delicious but deadly bourbon drinks now?
Who will insist on washing the car at the slightest provocation?
Who will drive to towns where we aren't even playing so we can shop for comic books and barbecue?

Probably nobody.

Ever since I picked him out of the gutter and bought him a pair of sticks, Slade has been a great drummer and a great friend. I hope you all will come out and see him play this weekend.

Ponderosa Stomp: anybody coming?
Is anybody coming down for the Ponderosa Stomp? Specifically, Bill and Susan, but anybody else? If you don';t know about it, go look at
the Mystic Knights of the Mau-Mau web site. If you're coming, drop a note in our guestbook or send me an e-mail. I'm gonna try to make at least one night.

Memphis goes crazy for the All-Night Movers
We finally found the People's Temple, right where they told us it'd be if we only listenend. We drove by in the afternoon to see if anything was happening. At the other end of the building, a kind of easter European looking guy came out to the gate carrying a small sledge hammer. Slade asked him if he knew anything about the rock show.
"Rrah gurr amma hrr ggah rrr!"
"Do you know anything about the rock show?"
Same response.
"The People's Temple?"
People Temple...is my place of WORSHIP!"
"Do you know about the show that's going on there tonight?"
Banging on the gate with the hammer.
"Oscars? Still in Europe!"
"We're the band from New Orleans." Long pause.
"Zydeco?"
"Slade, can we go?"
"I think this guy knows what's going on, he knows about the Oscars."
More growling and banging.
"Maybe we should go get a drink somewhere."
So the drinking began. Ask an anarchist a silly question, get a silly anarchist answer.
The show was not bad, really. We played great and I broke my E AND A strings but not until the last song. The Oscars and the Alphabetical Order were good and we dug climbing around on the roof drinking whisky with them. We were told there was some strange tension going on between the hosts of the show (People's Temple is a loft/warehouse space) and one of the bands, but it was nothing like getting screamed at by a sculptor.
The Goner Records message board has a cryptic colloquy about the show, including a short poem...

NEW YORK CITY
We had us a natural ball in New York City. All three shows were great. Had fun on Friday and was impressed by all the bands: The Demands, The Bamboo Kids, and The Fad. The Lakeside Lounge was nuts, what with Bill throwing the chair into the bathroom "because Chalmers was in there, and I thought he would also like to see a chair come flying in there." Logic! - thanks go out to Tony and Joe for adopting us as their children and loving us as their own, Leslie and Alan for political cartooning, bacon, whiskey, pad thai, suede, and more things including generally being the most best, Jahna and Blair for housing, duet practice, cat toys and general friendship, Jim, Eric, Daria and Lee for booking the actual gigs we played, the Church Keys for coming out and especially Bill for the snare, the Demands, the Rebel Outlaw Brothers Band, The Fad and The Bamboo Kids for letting us share stages with them, Lee and Heather and Wade and Meredith and Chris W. for supporting us even though you already knew Slade.

The show at Hank's Saloon is now up on the site:

Looks like we are playing a house party this weekend, Friday April 4. It's a house party hosted by Princess Ramona; if you don't know her you should. She's a princess! More details to come.
